Essay on Stanford Forrester

You Are Not Alone

by
Rachel Morrison

As I am more of a mathematical based thinker, I find sometimes my creative side is lacking. Haiku is really a way for me to find that release. It relieves some of the everyday stress in my life and inspires me to think outside the box. This collection means a lot to me and was very hard to narrow down. I have found that most of my haiku are very autobiographical, coming from my own experiences and beliefs. However, I hope that readers can also interpret the haiku to mean something important within their own lives. Finally, I must say that while some are more serious, I had to include lighthearted ones. After all, humor is definitely the way to my heart. Enjoy!

feel the wind
in your hair—
you are not alone

lightning
illuminates the room
Bible under my pillow

falling star…
why we are
here

skinny dipping
in the pond
only a frog watches

starry night
lying on the trampoline
cold nose

a teacher’s preying eyes
we speak
in sign language

winter wonderland…
he tackles her
into the snow drift

kiss
on the shoulder
I want you

he lends a jacket
to block the cold
a tornado of leaves

loneliness before
feeling winter’s bitter
wind again

secret admirer
no, mom
you don’t count

little feet and naked bottom
trying to escape
got ya!

warm and soft with
chocolate still melting
stolen cookie

spring rain
we make
another compromise
