Haiku to Edit 3 - Valentine's Haiku

Global Haiku • Millikin University • Spring 2008

hands clasped
under the table
candlelight and wine glasses

crudely-made paper heart
secret admirer...
butterflies

eyelids
hover like leaves
I watch

we reach
the forest edge
feet pad moist earth

opening door
a smile
that drives me wild

trying to concentrate
everything reminds me
of you

snowflake
on my outstretched hand
loses its beauty

lilacs in bloom
remind me
of the shampoo in your hair

heart beating faster
our embrace
last forever

our eyes meet—
for a moment
we our lovers

cornering her
he steals a kiss
playground love

laughing at candy hearts
in the cafeteria
URA 10

take a nibble...
what is in the center?
sweet surprises

on my desk
a single rose
flushed cheeks

crushes become reality
red and white hearts
Valentines day

he touches her shoulder
their eyes meet
true love

after Christmas snow
before April showers
Valentine’s slush

Midnight
My shredded soul
Without you

one I love
kiss me…
candy heart conversations

the love of my life
gives me a gift—
heart-shaped floor burn

gifts are
for everyone—
except me

groundhog
sneaking its head
out of his winter home

clutching my ballot
I walk to the door
tension

summer night
I walk home alone
and long for your hand to hold

The geese rest
Preparing for the journey
Chilly night skies

eight tiny paws
eagerly searching
for the last drop of milk

summer night
I walk home alone
and long for your hand to hold

two years gone
your stinging words
in a neat little package

Valentine’s Day
love proclaimed
with an unsigned card

you smile at me
from across the room
too scared to say hello

giggling girls
clumped on the dance floor
a brave boy extends his hand

puffy eyes
fill with salt water…
another scoop of ice cream

marinara
on her cheek
she chatters nervously

gentle kiss goodnight
like petals in the wind
finally coming to rest

Smile
I could study your face
Forever

soft snow
a clean gravestone
I set a yellow rose

best friends
Tuesday’s final
ice cream run

post-it
love letters
an office romance

snow reincarnated,
it begins
to rain

stricken with strep throat
valentines love restricted
to a hug

caffeine
dull throb
in the bitter wind

bareback
my cold fingertips
his warmth

winters chill
I’m warmed by
your arms

living and sharing
but never knowing
of a secret crush

all alone
on fourteen February
a single red rose

wanting him
to change his mind
a hidden wish

Heart beats faster
Cheeks flush just as quickly
Eye contact

Laying at her side
As dreams and reality
Touch

one I love
kiss me…
candy heart conversations

the love of my life
gives me a gift—
heart-shaped floor burn

groundhog
sneaking its head
out of his winter home

clutching my ballot
I walk to the door
tension

The geese rest
Preparing for the journey
Chilly night skies

eight tiny paws
eagerly searching
for the last drop of milk
