Kukai 5 - Haiku on Realationships

Global Haiku • Millikin University • Spring 2008

wispy clouds
wild blackberries
stain my lips

last penny splashes
in the fountain
make a wish

keys clacking
as a movie plays
homework party

wilted lilacs . . .
your hand
slips from mine

out the door
daddy storms—
my tears fall like rain

your extended hand
widens my smile
first dance

July afternoon
a hot fudge sundae
with two spoons

the train starts to go
one last kiss
he leaps off and waves

iPod
one set of headphones
two sets of ears

a stagnant fountain—
loose-necked geese
walk the surface

wind in her hair
as she smile…
no training wheels!

midnight…
I mosey
along the train track

wet socks
someone forgot
to wipe their shoes

driving you home
for the last time
leaves falling

white dress…
dad escorts his princess
to her prince

ice
the car
rests in the ditch

dandelions
for the one I love…
a child’s bouquet

warm laundry
piled on my bed...
all week

approaching your porch
my heart races
summer breeze

sleep…
the only time
I see your face

two icicles from the same source
one falls
and breaks

always having
my back
teammates

barefoot
in the grass
we talk about everything

sinking in sofas,
our laughter
keeps us warm

an echo comes back,
the same
but new

staring
at the notes we wrote
as they burn

the first date
he brings her
a bunch of daises

parents fighting
I escape to
my dreams

blooming daisies
look magical
in your golden hair

blazing sun
we sit in the kitchen
and talk about grades

spring rain
lined up in a row
duck crossing

fresh snow
tracing our names in a heart
with a gloved finger

fireflies flirt—
summer heat
on our skin

the girls locker-room
if only
I were awake

final goodbye
St. Valentine
betrays me

winter storm coming
her bedtime prayer
a long one

big fort
made of scrap wood
dad puffs his chest

laying on the hood
of your Chevy
you point out the big dipper

he tosses
the snowball
at his secret crush

grand oak tree
ants crawl
into our picnic basket

in the pumpkin patch
an “I love you”
makes me blush

for you
I hand pick
the perfect pear

summer breeze…
two souls part
for the coming school year

his cold feet
in my lap—
tickle! tickle!

i ask him a question
he continues to read
bronze man

under an umbrella—
palm on palm
your hand encompassing mine

broken hearted
as you walk away—
foot prints in the snow

leaves fall
a boy watches as
his father is carried

summer stars—
lovers revealed
under the full moon

grass-stained knees
he picks a dandelion
for her bouquet

paused—
my mom yells
its time for dinner

school night
the couple kisses
front porch lights flicker

falling
I awake
to my heart pounding

the four of us—
we can be eighteen
forever
