Global Haiku Traditions Spring 2008

warm summer night
I am taught again
how things used to be

blanket of grass
dreams of summer
fill my head

the guard dog
lies belly up,
tongue lolling to the side

summer morning
no alarm clock
Hallelujah

a slight chill
I miss
my hair

as I open the door
he sneaks between my legs
silly cat

fresh pies in the garage
the cat licks
his whiskers

summer beach
empty clams
from a raccoon feast

reclining in the van
dozing off warm and content
to my dad's voice

lots of laundry
in the back
I drive home

first day of summer
the little girls
dust off the jump rope

our tiny fort
refuge
from dish-washing

floating rainbow
I leap from the water
but cannot reach it

charcoal fingers—
blowing dust
off the sketch

evening sunbeams
we stop to rest
on a weathered bench

front porch rain
our bond
deepens
