dark cool waves
sand squishes
between my toes
the crowd erupts . . .
juicy hot dog
falls to the ground
completely exhausted
I drive home,
but am still homesick
hand in hand
pacing back to her door—
night is complete
blood, sweat, and tears
I make the cliché
my reality
numb hands
chilled spine—
late-season practice
Touchdown!
but still down
fourteen points . . .
