Haiku Author Essay:
Contrasts in the Haiku of Bernard Lionel Einbond

Untitled

by
Lindsay Scully

My collection of haiku focuses on one thing: my life. I write from experience. the happy, the sad, the old & familiar, the new & exciting--all of these shape the person I am today. For me, writing haiku is therapeutic. I can express myself without worrying about judgement. Since I am still transforming into the person I am going to be, I decided to leave my collection untitled. Since my collection does not have one unifying theme, I also think leaving it untitled is appropriate. I am enjoying the journey—I hope you enjoy the colletion.

summer rain
warm hearts
in this sea of blankets

wind in her hair
as she smiles...
no training wheels!

back porch
young girls' laughter
amidst the falling rain

six eyes peer
into the croaking bucket
King Toad

he paces outside
her door
long-stemmed roses

toboggan glides
down the hill
snow sprays my face

in the pumpkin patch
an "i love you"
makes me blush

holding dad's hand
catching snowflakes
on my tongue

sandy feet rock
this front porch swing
orange to purple sky

lovers' initials
etched under stairs
lake house ghosts
