Color Wheel Renga
by Jennifer Godwin & Emily Weible
weathered by the passage of time-
voices still resonate
through the old, red schoolhouse
bringing new life
cardinals build a nest
with knarled branches-
an ancient tree stands watch
over a tiny apple
rising in the night—
a harvest moon
overwhelms the sky
red-yellow sunrise
embellishes the landscape
deep in the grove…
the season’s first
tangerine bloom
nurtured by the sun-
dandelions blanket
the cemetery in yellow
a canary’s song
wafts through the air
the aroma-
of lemon meringue pie
reminds me of home
freshly cut grass
stains our knees
--water balloon fight
lily pads float weightlessly
in the backyard pond
sprinklers—
mint takes a bath
in the garden
radiant morning-
she picks a forget-me-not
for her hair
swirling clouds overhead
paint a picture in the sky
a blond boy
chases his blue cap
down the street
under stomping feet—
grapes transform
into wine
fingers swirl tracing
patterns on the purple tablecloth
table centerpiece—
the lilac bush
donates some flowers
