New Chapter

by
Jessica Claussen

Intro: Haiku is more than 5-7-5. Haiku is capturing memories, moments, senses, feelings, life and many more. Most of my haiku come from personal experiences. I hope that you can put yourself in the shows of the characters in my haiku. Heightening senses, and visual aspects is what makes haiku successful. It is more than just words on a page. I hope you can relate to my haiku and enjoy reading them because I have enjoyed writing them and have learned so much in doing so! Thank you! ~Jessica

new chapter
I hide
in unworn pages

young boy
sings along
from his upside down hymnal

under his glasses
he stared
at another woman

I surprise you at work
just to find
you don't work here

Starburst wrapper
holds my answer
I checked yes

he pulls me closer
with a soft touch
past curfew

in the kitchen
we make our masterpiece
mac-n-cheese

my prince
builds my palace . . .
sandcastles

our toes peek
from under the blanket
star gazing

on our walk
we talk of our future
as the sun sets

country road
holds the answers
to my thoughts

around her neck
a rusted necklace
friends Forever

baby's first steps
on Fourth of July
stops the parade

on the subway
the old hippie
dances

wooden church
destroyed by the tornado
Bible untouched

in the pile of ashes
you caught my eye
wedding photo
