A Formal Affair Kasen

A Formal Affair

check-in
the big white bed
beckons

makeshift bar
bottles on the desk

pulling back the drapes
looking down
falling together

her dress hides
her bruised thighs

unexpected visitor
they open the door
full moon

the perfect couple
fights in the elevator

Dead-bolted door
a new heat
overtakes them

she floats away
as the night wears on

thumping bass
staring at my feet
to avoid his glare

holding her closer
to avoid a fight

in his face
the look
. . . time for a shot

out in the car
secret smoke break

beneath the moon
he gently kisses
her forehead

holding hands
they promise forever

security guard
pacing the halls
ignorance is bliss

breaking the silence
the clink of a glass

unzipping her dress
his prospects
blossom

sipping water
his hands shake

in the mirror
behind her
he smiles

he starts to sing
her favorite song

impromptu dance
they hum and sway
together

one shot too many
he wobbles

lord of the dance
endearing until
his pants rip

out in the hall
she furiously sews

morning after
stitching the memories
back together

under the covers
he pokes her awake

sunrise
she says no
he stifles a groan

checking out
in more ways than one

last kiss
the moon breaks
the horizon

our memories fit
in one cardboard box

my daily routine
is harder
without you

unexpected text
stronger connection

crowded dance floor
he gingerly takes
her hand

lips lock
all is forgiven

he pulls away
the familiar sent
of cherry blossoms

three words
seal the deal

This weekend, we all attended a sorority and a fraternity dance. These haiku are written from our experiences, our imagination and the experiences of others. Most of the haiku were written as in collaboration with each other so they are not individually identified.
