Footprints

by
Kelsey Meredith

This haiku collection is entitled "Footprints" because it embodies where I've been. These haiku represent the steps that I have taken and the people who have walked into my life and left footprints on my heart. They represent my journey, a journey that I believe many people can relate to. So, sit back, relax, and take a walk through my life while reading "Footprints".

warm shower
turns icy
mom’s doing dishes

early morning
her shower song
wakes me

elementary school
I made fun of his ears—
he liked me anyway

sig

talking about my sins . . .
hey I’m only here
for the free donuts

words ring in my head
the silent screaming of things
I will never say

you just keep
showing back up in my life;
spring showers

he said my eyes
had a sort of sparkle to ‘em;
yeah yeah sure sure

you had me
the moment you asked
“Hey do you want Taco bell?”

where the path ends
our footprints
don’t

in the coffee shop
where we met . . .
a cute new waiter

reaching for my brother’s hand
as mom explains
divorce
