Coming Home Soon

old bones, broken bones
toothy smile
eases the ache

to

bend over
stomach burning

rm

I offer my hand
only to be returned
with nothing

cb

the cool autumn breeze
walking with me

jc

harvest moon rising
no one is here
to see it with me

ab

instead I jot down thoughts
in an old, tattered journal

hz

morning breeze
I wonder about
our future

km

he told me
he wants to marry me

ec

a scribbled note
and a quarter—
sixth grade

cd

taken by the teacher . . .
posted for all to see

ka

now the whole world
knows of our love . . .
Jealousy

jr

beans have sprouted
eyes speak

sek

in the light from the moon
I write
all the things I couldn't say

eed

after the funeral
her diary

rmb

tells me of things
he never
knew

al

as she lay dying—
Addie's journal

to

flower by flower
forget-me-nots
bloom

rm

praying
on flower petals

cb

he loves me
he loves me not . . .
most likely not.

rm

childhood concerns,
days of juice stains & scabs

to

these scabs
leave scars
on the heart

al

end of summer
mist over the waves

rmb

I say goodbye
to the ocean . . .
for now

eed

waves lap
a heart drawn on my hand

sek

slowly fading
I feel the need
to move on

jr

I hike over the hill
to the old oak

ka

this is where
it all went down . . .
I miss her

cd

you seem like
a good replacement

ec

moonlight through the window
on your side of the bed,
the dog

km

can't sleep
he snores differently

hz

flickering streetlamp
unusually bright
new moon

ab

batteries dead
the moon guides me

jc

run-away dog
at eighteen
she cries

cb

best friend
left to find
a new home

rm

spring rain pour—
finding shelter beneath
the cherry blossoms

to

praying
he'll come home soon.
