This matched pair is incredibly similar. Both haikus deal with sporting events. Both deal with the jumbo-tron at a sporting event. And both are incredibly awkward moments. The hockey game seems to be in the premature stages of the relationship. Whereas, the wedding proposal, seems to be at the end of the relationship. Kort |

This pair from Matching Kukai 5 was probably my favorite. Both of them create an image of a time when one or both parents made you feel embarrassed , which in most cases, we feel like they always embarrass us but in these two instances, they are very embarrassing. What I found rather funny was that in the first, the father is pretty much telling the son, “No don’t kiss her,” just by clearing his throat, while in the second one, dad is the one being gross and all mushy-mushy. I won’t read into what the text may have been, but it must be something romantic and lovey-dovey. So the two haiku have a lot in common with dad being embarrassing, but there is also some great contrast between the two. Jackie |

Despite one of my haiku being in this match, I really liked the other one as well. Of course I thought my haiku was better, haha, but if I liked both of them because they had a great sense of humor. I thought of my haiku because I have seen this instance at many hockey games that I have been to. Sometimes the publicity of the kiss cam just scares people away. Thankfully, I have not experienced the second haiku and nor do I wish to experience it. For the select few that have, I feel sorry for them. I really liked this haiku. I thought that it was pretty neat that my two favorite haiku from Matching Contest 5 both made it to the Championship Match! Blaine |
These were my favorite haiku from the Matching Contest 5. They are both pretty similar with parents being embarrassing somehow and I think both of them are pretty relatable. Neither of these have ever actually happened to me, but I could see them happening. I like the second one better than the first one because it’s not just embarrassing to the three of you, but to an outsider as well and they are seeing how awkward your parents can be. The first one, you can put down the phone and pretend you never looked. The second one, you try to hint at your parents to stop talking, but it’s like they want to embarrass you and just continue to tell stories. Heather |
