Too Much Work

To Much Work

Too much work
The beavers
Build their den

Man hours
Spent away from home

Every class
Seems to take forever
Approaching summer

Anxiety sets in
Deadlines build

Moonlight
Somehow soothes
Her rattled nerves

Bolded words
Speak volumes to her

•

Misunderstood
She runs out the door
Into the autumn night

The porchswing
Blows gently . . . empty inside

Hopping into the old car
A romantic song
Brings tears to eyes

Under the apple tree
A windfall of kisses

Memories of summer
On a mountain peak

The silver fish
Tries to jump the waterfall

•

father and son
Watch the sunrise
Over the mountains

The hawk's cry
Treetops in the sky

Litter the
View
From the airplane

Heavy clouds
I view from above

I lay in a field
Cherry blossoms
sleep

poppies turn to opiates
my past

•

Haunted by the memories
I quickly think
Of fun times

Summer night sky
—a raging bonfire

Thought to be nimble
'ought to be quick
Jack couldn’t clear the candlestick

Flashing lights, blaring sirens—
Emergency room

The crowded room
The only thing leaving
Sounds of arguing

The soldiers fold the flag
For the weeping widow

•

Framed by the window
The willow cries
Flower petals

The words lost
She hums the chorus

Thinking of
grandma's funeral
only last year

tomorrow waits
I close my eyes

All I see
Brightly shining
Full moon

Blind slits
create white lines in the carpet

•

Shadows curve
Across the baby
Asleep in her lap

Ringlits bouncing
She begs for the baby calico

Tired mother
Purring gently
Dinner time

The hungry kittens
Racing each other

Cherry blossoms
Fall down to
Greet the cats

Standing tall
The new cat president

Composed by the Spring 2014 Honors Global Haiku Class. Each student contributed one link based upon the prior students work. Few guidelines were given and the result was not changed in any way.

This was a round-robin mad verse kasen renga, with writers taking turns linking and shifting off the previous verse.
