Besides both of these being good haiku, I liked that each one had a part of the poem that was negative, but yet the outcome still seemed to end positive. The first haiku was about playing games with someone who doesn’t like games, yet this person agrees to do it for the sake of spending time with a loved one. That is a beautiful, selfless act, and in the end, they both end up getting to see each other and have fun. In the other poem, I picture a couple that switched the sides of the bed that they sleep on. While at first it seems weird, the person the realizes that in the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal, as long as they are sharing a bed with this special person. Both haiku kind of give off that warm message that sometimes the little things don’t matter as long as the big picture turns out okay. Also, sometimes we sacrifice things for others we love. The language is simple in both of these, yet it gets the message across. This was a hard matchup because they are so similar and I liked both equally. The structure was similar, both having three lines. It was a good competition! Kendall |

I like this pairing. Both make me think of nighttime. I feel like you only consider these sort of things when you are very tired. Why else would you be lying in bed anyways? And the moon points to nighttime. They both point to unease. The both seem like very peacefully sad poems. Lexy

I really liked both of these haiku and I thought that they fit well together. They both talk about being so overcome with emotion that you give in to your temptations. The first one gives the image of a person just enjoying the night and deciding to give in and truly enjoy the night without holding back. The second one deals with being so happy about how things are that they just can't hold back, so they yodel. Brandon |
