Mad-verse

driving down the road
I turn up the radio
to her favorite song

ac

singing along
until I remember her

bj

the tree
with our initials on it
has been dying

ap

leaves scattered
across the shelf

kf

the moon
shining through the window
the boy’s face glows

eg

unsure of what to say
he laughs

nk

mall crowd
I wait in line for fro-yo
not speaking

kk

our fight leaves tension
that you could cut with a knife

kr

sleeping alone
she still finds time
to fold my clothes

ns

I forgive
but I will not forget

lb

funeral procession . . .
she’s still holding on
to her anger

fr

emotions may fade
memories remain

ak

letting the moon
take the lead
a dream of peace

rmb

spring breeze
replacing the winter gust

ak

curtains gently blowing
I practice the harmonica
as my grandson sleeps

fr

I stay quiet
though I want you to wake

lb

budding flowers
waiting to be acknowledged
by my new lover

ns

I keep waiting but—
he never comes

kr

disappointed
again
I eat dinner by myself
