How Far We Have Come

springtime
new beginnings
all around

the young boy cuts his finger
picking the roses

reaching back out of fear
blood trickling

her daughter becomes
a nurse

that night at the party
we stare up at the moon
how far we have come

now entry in my journal
I remember the joys we had

I actually hate her
we had fun
until she cheated

feeling awful . . .
she strands on the corner

goods for sale
no one
wants

her cooking skills
unmentioned by her husband

chicken parmesan
tastes like
turkey

is this real meat?
I don’t want to know

week long hiking trip
eating canned beans
under the moon

these beans remind me
of my favorite childhood movie

watching with him
we laugh
at the little things

walking through the plains
he’s the one

cherry blossoms
falling on the path
here comes the bride
