Kasen-renga

dinner table
springs reunion
with family

windows down
missing a member

no talking
in the silence
reminiscing

asking ourselves
where does time go

answered
by the moon
in full

the evening folds
with the table cloth

retiring to the couches
the TV
entertains

mindless viewers
glazing over

the show fades
the noise booms
from commercials

we ask
what are we doing

the board game opens
the pieces fly
dice roll

characters move
across the field

the voices raise
along with
the moon

words are said
but aren't meant

the board flies
with the bird
that's flightless

the board folds
like the competition

another argument
blossoms
with the conclusion

family
over positions

calling
the one
who is missing

no answer
but the machine

a voicemail
from the past
abd voices lost

second dial
"hello"

reminisce
made possible
with Apple

bad connection
in St. Louis

giving time
for the ones
important

through
white noise

frozen faces
held
in palms

we turn
back to TV

the moon
turns back
to us

we look out
to nature

the animals
some to life
at night

asking us
to go to bed

we retire
to our rooms
glad for each other

cherry blossom wallpaper
wishing sweet dreams

drifting away
to bed
for a morning meeting
