The Pack Leader

by

The Peters Family

This kasen renga was created by members of the Peters family
following the death of our grandpa, Lawrence J. Peters.

The Pack Leader

evening dinner
visiting aunts and uncles
        last meal

surrounded by family
peaceful death

a few cousins
what's next?
more waiting

texts sent out
make sure everyone knows

driving down the road
I look straight ahead
and see the bright moon

we'll be good
it won't be like last time

at least it's almost summer
positive thoughts
are the better thoughts

to much love
To our family

17 male cousins
all at our weakest
who cries the hardest?

but we'll be alright
we're strong

so much to do
all I want to do
Is nothing

this isn't the last time
good faith

where is the moon?
it's clouded
by negative thoughts

oldest son
my dad

how can he be strong?
when they wheel him away
he smiles?

in a better place
he'll see all the games

the coroner comes
with a lovely blossomed rose
it smells nice

warm evening
with a cool breeze

one of those nights
I remember
where I was

running out of the restaurant
we didn't get our dessert

those phone calls
you get that feeling
something is wrong

he doesn't know yet
I love him

I wonder if he'll remember
he'll know
the stories

we have the stories
and the memories

new day
I wake up
was it a dream?

I'll see him again
just like the song

love turns to neglect
we never take advantage
of our time

no regrets though
he would be mad

every time I look up
the moon reflects
a comforting smile

end of the line
I knew it

I thought I should go
over to their house
before I got the call

those gut feelings
we've all had them

Spring day
I swing in a hammock
and think of the fun

nothing changes
we eat, laugh, and smile

Spring flowers
I'll be reminded of him
by the blossoms

fun ride
hopefully this does justice
