Riding the Wind April 26, 2015 by Eve Greenwell |
Riding the Wind fall breeze
piling the dirt atop
a watchful raven
on the fence of the playground
the blood of the victim
rising from the earth
• in the closet
dragging footsteps
an enraged roar
at the sound of the lion
collapsed zoo gates
a grand collaboration
• the arctic moon
a whale's spout
she stands at the cliff face
falling turns to flight
gravity prevails
tumbling from her hand
• alone on the floor
she turns to her husband
his warmth lingers
a breeze through the window
carefully observing
impatiently
• kickball
in the outfield
blinded by the sun
clouded by doubt
the moon's light
raindrops tap the window
• the crickets sing
expectant mother
longing for a better future
knitting needles in hand
faint taps
the old tree at the window

Eve, Mackenzie, and I decided to do this through text since we were not able to meet together. I was in a hotel in Wisconsin, while Eve was in the anatomy lab at Millikin. Mackenzie was in Weck Hall at Millikin. Eve started, then I would write one, and then Mackenzie. Unfortunately, Mackenzie had to leave in the middle of it, so Eve and I just switched off after that. ~ Nicole |
