The Changing Seasons

The Changing Seasons

blooming flowers
class of children
reaching for the tissues

sneezing
I avoid the garden

the rain drops
decorate daisy petals
storming, lightning, pouring

with the loud storm
I sleep peacefully

stretched out
in the bed
the moon shinning on me

heavy eyelids
take me to another world

dreaming of flight . . .
falling
I jolt in bed

you wake
and smooth down my hair

nuzzling into your arms
if only we could stay
like this forever

we split up
on your last day here

I go
anywhere but here
new beginnings

I contemplate my life
over crappy coffee

project due
room lit by computer
and the moon

my head nods
no progress made

late night music
I throw a dance party
to get out my energy

sweat covers my arms
dew covered roses

the cherry blooms
cover the road
on the way to see you

making a u-turn
unsure of what to do

stuck in the middle
problems in all directions
divided highway

all roads lead me
where I don't want to go

I pull into a gas station
and reassess my life
refuel, redo

weekend trip
in love with the view

trees lining the mountain
roads winding up
and down

lacing my hiking boots
I prepare for the day

mountain journey
the grandeur of the world
reflected in a drop of dew

deer pausing to see
then sprinting

two birds land
in the same nest
love made real

co-ed dorm romance
away from dad's protection

moon the only light
in my room
I can make out your silhouette

fingers search for each other
and intertwine

clasping fingers
father holding her hand
first day of school

having to say goodbye
even though you're crying

the beginning always
out-beats the end
tissues dab at tears

baby pictures
at her funeral

your new grave
covered in cherry blossoms
a chilly afternoon

the wind calls out
for a fresh start

I would like to thank Olivia Cuff for coming out of her haiku retirement for this one project.
