This collection of haiku is the product of my studies of Global Haiku under Dr. Randy Brooks at Millikin University. I chose to name this collection “Glimmer” because if you look hard enough, there is always light to be found, even if it is only a glimmer. Though the following haiku are certainly up to interpretation, I invite you to take on new perspectives while reading and find that glimmer throughout. the following pages include my favorite haiku I’ve written, mostly generated from times where I put life on hold, if only for a moment, to appreciate and ponder the world around me. I hope you enjoy this collection.

forgotten cup
filled to the brim
stars and moonshine

mom's soft snores
worksheets and projects
cover the table

Spring sneaks in
through the cracked window
I continue working

mismatched pottery
each piece
its own story

living in the fishbowl
I cannot help
but do nothing

a single bead
rolls down my leg
I evaporate

a clap of thunder
his hand jumps
to his scar

in the cool stone
the Queen’s eyes
smoldering

lone footsteps in the snow
unaware
the difference I make

thick, wet snow
certain parts of me
buried alive

black forehead smudges
I wish I could believe
so proudly

salmon swim upstream
strolling down the bank
of the postcard

spring evening walk
both of us ignoring
the other's limp
