This is my favorite match because they are two or my favorite haiku from this sheet. They are sad but truthful and I like the honesty in them. They are both about a girl being with someone else. The sparkled diamond gives me imagery of the diamond on her hand sparkling like the tear in his eye because she isn't his. For the second one, I picture a guy waiting each year to make his move on Valentine's Day but she always has someone so he can't make his move. Lexi For the matching contest "sparkled diamond" was my favorite Haiku, and I thought it was going to be the winner. It is also another relatable haiku, and that probably a number of people in the class had once been with someone who they thought they were going to be with for the rest of their lives. High school sweethearts or what not. Deion |

This was my favorite haiku that we read all day in class. What makes this one special however is that it is my favorite because of you saying something about lips and it made me laugh so hard. Andrew |

Both of these haiku have the alliteration with the L sound. They also communicate this idea of a push and pull effect. In the first haiku, these people are un-attracted, but are still lovers. In the second haiku, the lies on the person’s lips are still their favorite, and are seen as a positive thing. I think this element makes both of these haiku appealing to their audiences. Also, they both have a darker tone to them, which makes them stand out. They could also be seen as a good match because the lies could be coming from the liquor, but that is when they are the person’s favorite because they become a lover. Rachel |

I really liked this haiku because it reminded me of a couple that is completely in love with one another. It isn't just some regular kind of love a lot of people say to each other, it's more of a comfortable, sweet kind of love. I imagine a couple at a party, enjoying themselves with their friends. They're drunk and in love, all over each other. Then, the girlfriend begins to feel sick and throws up. While she may have made everyone else around her feel just as sick, her boyfriend is unbothered. He holds her hair |

this is a movie scene that plays out in my head when I read this haiku. I feel the whole scene going on before me. Also my mom voted for this one and I gotta show it some love. Josh |

I think these two pair perfectly together, though they capture two very different types of love. In the first one, the love is permanent and on display, proudly, for all to see. While in the second one, the love seems temporary, only displayed to those he is trying to impress, the girlfriend in the second haiku seems more like a trophy than a lover. The first haiku seems to capture a real, mature relationship, while the bottom one is only a glimpse of fleeting puppy love. The whole world can see the love that Allyson is talking about, but only the people the boy is trying to impress can see the second love. Nicole |
I liked this matched haiku because it gave me a sense of a sad break up. The one who is upset over losing the other person is still seeing them. In this sense the person is still in love with that person and they cannot stop seeing them/ thinking of them. This haiku can relate to a lot of people who are going through bad break ups and it portrays the image very well. This being in both haiku. Ryan |

I like this haiku for several reasons. My ex treated me very badly and never wanted to be around me, especially when he was with his friends. I think this haiku is very intimate and sweet. This guy is genuinely happy and excited to bring his girl around his friends. Coming from someone who isn’t used to that, it is really a simple action that means a lot to me. Ally |

I enjoy this match because it has to do with food as well as love. It seems that food isn’t something we take lightly—we treat it like another being that will come into our possession and we will devour. While we established that Jimmy John subs are actually eight inches, I think the hilarity in the statement is still prevalent. And while fresh pizza is almost as great as having a girlfriend or boyfriend, it is still loved and cherished. Rory My favorite match was the two food ones, the one about Jimmy Johns and the one about pizza. I just liked how simple they were in describing love, because food is something everyone loves and can relate to. Also both just flowed so well and had humor in them. Morgan These two haiku are my favorite match because it's about food and love. The best valentine gift for me would be food. I wouldn't want any expensive gifts or cards or flowers. But I would want food. And pizza and subway sandwiches are two of my most favorite items. I imagine these two haiku as a sweet boyfriend surprising his girlfriend with a cute box in front of her door with food inside them. I don't know but I feel this would be a special gift to gift your significant other. Jesal |
