Leaving a Mark

by
Kaitlyn Foster

My name is Kaitlyn Foster. I’m a Senior Nursing Student, graduating May 20th. Most of my Haiku are from emotional experiences in my life – whether it be happy, sad, and etc. They all have one thing in common, they are memorable to me. I hope you enjoy these Haiku just as much as I enjoyed writing them!

hugging the patient
whose family
never visits

holding my hand
she takes
her last breath

his truck bed
my blanket
our stars

camping
we bathe together
in the river

air dried hair
napping in the sunshine
mother and daughter

under the stars
fingertips
in the roots of her hair

stop to listen to silence
old house . . .
now i’m scared

tattoo on his shoulder
playing peek-a-boo with me
what’s his story

i hope she loves
playing ball
as much as i did

the phone rings
my heart hangs up
why

only a few more months
she thinks to herself
as she zips up her coat

Vietnam veteran
shares his stories
my new hero
