Tidal Wave

by
Lexi Doss

INTRODUCTION: My title of my haiku collection is “Tidal Wave”. A tidal wave can be defined as a large ocean wave that is usually pretty destructive. However, I want my meaning of tidal wave to be an overwhelming wave of happiness from life’s experiences. I have included twenty- four of my favorite haiku that I have written over the past four months. This collection ranges from naturistic haiku to memorable haiku all filled with details and images that I hope you can picture in your head. I chose these haiku because they were the ones that I felt many people could connect to. ~Lexi

“Lexi uses amazing adjectives to describe the scenes she wants to portray. I love that when reading her haiku I get such a distinct, yet interpretable image. My favorite haikus from her are “something so precious, burns me, pizza” and “big black dog, attacks me, wet slobbery tongue”. I like that they set a distinct image in your head while reading the first two lines, and then they both take a huge twist when you read the third line. I think Lexi’s haikus are very descriptive but yet still open for interpretation which leads for a large audience to enjoy her haikus” -Katie Goethals

life’s a beach
one man said
tidal wave

a path of rocks lie
where the stream
used to flow

purple pastel
her eyeshadow
the flowers

pastel flowers
finally abloom
a once dead grave

cedar wood shingles
hang from the house
grandpa built

swaying in the wind
the shadow
of the empty porch swing

walking in the cornfield
holding hands
with my world

box of chalk
I open the cardboard top
powder settles on my fingers

light saber
slaying monsters
under my bed

struggling to be
peanut butter
without my jelly

something so precious
burns me
pizza

big black dog
attacks me
her wet slobbery tongue

sleeping together
in the same bed
so distant

her deep breath
didn’t prepare me
for what came next
