dinner with friends
we laugh
as the snow falls outside

snowed in
family movie night
by the fireplace

snow gently falling
burning
toes and fingers

my breath shows
I ponder
when the sun will return

brown snow
fallen on the ground
where’s the narcan?

frosty windows
heat turned up
running late for work

warm wool
she stands next to
the sheep

stranger in the snow
wearing shorts.
my coat and I strut past

walking around campus
in winter
i pull my scarf tighter

the frigid air
relentless
one glove missing

remote start
heated seats
car won’t start

old blue truck
sputtering
as the key turns

a new day
crunching under my feet
I almost fell for you

cold morning
I hum
a shivered tune

the children
flip off
freezing bystanders

empty campus
the heat of an empty gym
as practice begins

the wind
chill to the bone
a few more feet

darkness
heading to go eat
my lunch

winter lager
a reunion
of old friends

skating around the pond
grandma calling
hot chocolate time

snow covered hill
I remember
sledding on Church Street

fireplace crackle
a half-finished
jigsaw puzzle

snow
the cat’s pawprints
to a final resting place

melting snow
sunlight
on the mushy grass

in your rainstorm
I open
my own umbrella

gray winter night sky
we shovel snow
scoop by scoop

heavy breathing
lifted up
on angels wings

thick ice
covers the sidewalk
where we met

fire burning
stockings hung
full of coal

school is cancelled
hot chocolate
in the cup

oval frame
light up mirror
lipstick and snow boots

snow falling outside
watching a movie
by the Christmas tree

snow coming down
friends down the street
snowball fight

sweat drips
shoveling snow
. . . forever

car tail lights
slowly moving away
nervous jitters

hot turkey
family surrounds it
heads down

snowy roads
my lost wallet
in another state

winter break over
snow falling
first week of classes

small puddles
footsteps
line the hallway

January snow
indistinct chatter
fills the hallway

sneeze in the dormers
5 girls
softly whisper bless you

laying flat in the snow
swinging arms and legs
becoming angels

trucks are loaded
the boys and girls
gather in the country

stepping in the shower
steam fills the bathroom
getting warmer

frog jumps
water splashes
he made it

silence
life is wrong without
his acoustic guitar playing

kate spade
painting the world
suicide

friends to the
left and the right
not a light in sight

Pinterest
ideas that will
never happen

a cup of coffee
music playing
alone

four in the afternoon
grandma's drink
it's about time

high heels
late to work
making my name

gratitude journal
the unemployed man
thankful for heat

severed animal tail
frames a woman's face
sorry

pumpkin spice on sale
sorry
it's egg nog season

familiar laughs
a heavy bag
but no extra pencils

video game
killing each other
killing time

closing your eyes
in a bed
somewhere unfamiliar

eucalyptus
the only way
to breathe

sweet tea
no ice
mother's laughter

my vegan fiancé
meets the family
mom’s meatloaf

twinkling lights
steak dinner
downtown night life

baby breath
constant crying and whining
tooth poking through

lukewarm soup
across the table
an empty seat

black smoke billowing
he runs
sirens blaring

fire crackles
the man plays
vinyl records from his youth

fake smile
the weekend after
you left

the weight of my bag
on my shoulders
heavy as my nerves

i wake up
it's only 3:00
i wake up again

the wrong turn . . .
smoky echoes
dark silence

stiff legs
after a long car ride
new home

long boat ride
one hundred miles to go
the holy land

dandelions in a plastic cup
a gift
for my mother

black dots dancing
spinning room
stabbing pain in the brain

oak tree
leaves are falling
why are you holding on

old friends
we struggle to remember
what made us laugh

hot tea
steams up the window
rain rhythms

unfriendly tickle in throat
nostrils crying
uh-oh . . .
