Wonderful Thoughts

by
Rene Sanchez

I learned how to express myself through haiku and to visualize different perspectives through just a few lines.

invading stars
I look
through the sunroof

gloomy day
cars follow
as we say goodbye

the orange line
the place
that feels like home

fourteen years
a childhood friend
now my best man

first date
constant glances
. . . at my phone

State Championship

Cloudy Saturday morning, no birds to be found. Hiding from the cold breeze hitting the trees. We exit off the bus, relieved to be here. Eight hours till I can be crowned champion one last time. Crowd is covered with different colored shirts, cheering and yelling team names. I look around wondering if I will choke or move on? No better feeling than getting your hand raised by the ref, knowing you are the best.

all gas.
no break
one last run

new teeth . . .
i smile
after two years

old friends reunited . . .
once again
cold brew      for two

bean bags flying
straight into the hole
another win

steamy shower
all the stress
down the drain . . .
