This is absolutely one of my favorite pairs from the first matching contest. Both of these haikus bring be back to my childhood when I always carried around a specific stuffed bear. I received this bear when I was born, and I can recall memories from my very early childhood years where I treated it as if it had a life of its own. The teddy bear was pure white and so soft, but over the years it became discolored. It always kept its fuzziness and I never cared about the condition of him. One time after dropping it, his left eye popped out and I remember after my aunt glued it back on, I put a bandage over it for him to “heal.” Bryce Bayer, Spring 2021 Bryce Bayer, Spring 2021 |

These two haiku from today's class made me laugh. I feel like the first one is for people who are in a new, exciting relationships, and the people who relate to the second one are probably going through a messy break-up. The second one is full of angst and tension while the first one sort of gives me butterflies. I can see where the two relate, though, in a way that they are both new feelings, just one is right before a new relationship is happening, and the second one is the feeling after one just ends. We all feel and take things a certain way, so I think a lot of people can relate to both of these haiku about love. Camryn Skundberg, Spring 2021 I like this match from the matching contest of love. I really enjoyed both of these haiku because it made me look at both of them in some type of way. I like that Alyson mentioned in her haiku about experiencing facetime memories together and just sitting back and looking at the love of their life whoever that may be. I also liked the second one that Colin wrote because it made me think of the time of my last relationship that went bad because of a social media finding. I think both of these correlates to relationships of some sort or a guy that you might be interested in. Danni Beard, Spring 2021 I like this one because it is like a domino effect. I see in the first one as a brand-new couple starting to get to know each other, but not official yet but it is obvious that there are feelings there., and the second one shows that the guy in the relationship actually had a girlfriend, but because he fell for someone else he ended his other relationship. It is like high school scandal. Carly Clo, Spring 2021 |

Since the pandemic all of my dating consisted of FaceTime dates and online chatting. I do not see this as the norm for the future, but for now it is. In this haiku I saw two people son their first FaceTime encounter. They are having a hard time opening up because it is such a weird predicament they are in. But they continue to look at each other and giggling and starting to open up! Marissa Garcia, Spring 2021 |

I chose to match these haiku because they have similar overarching concepts, but also have some distinct differences as well. While each of these haiku are about spending Valentine's day alone, they both employ their own forms of comedic relief to provide readers with enjoyment. In the first haiku, the author uses the phrase “it's always lonely”, indicating that they are used to being on their own and don't mind it. Whereas in the second haiku, the author begins with the phrase “night alone”, leading readers to believe that this alone time may be infrequent. Towards the end of each haiku, the authors described the items that will provide them with a sense of comfort. The first haiku mentions stuffed animals and gave off a sarcastic tone, while the second described both snacks and a movie in a peaceful tone. While I like each of these haiku for their anti-valentine's day nature, the second is my favorite of the two. This haiku was more straight forward and provides readers with a sense of mystery, as the first line is open for interpretation. Additionally, I found this haiku to be more relatable in my personal life. Chloe Herbert, Spring 2021 |

I feel that these two haikus match up well with each other. Both of these haikus capture the simplicity and freedom of being single. However, each of these haikus have a completely different tone and seem to tell a different story. The first haiku sort of has a negative connotation from the first line that says, “night alone.” In the second haiku, this one has more of a positive and/or optimistic tone. The first line says, “living my best life,” which clearly shows that this person is perfectly content and happy. Sarah Barter, Spring 2021 |
These haiku paired well together. I found them reminding me of young love. It reminded me of innocence and young lovers – something we experience before our twenties. It was a sweet reminder of how young and free we feel with early “love.” These were very cute to me! Alyson Robbins, Spring 2021 |
