Haiku

by
Geovanny Tapia

These haiku depict experiences and feelings that are important to me. While some are melancholy, they are moments I want to remember. If I'm luck, there are moments here that others will relate to as well.

our initials
carved
by some other couple

a million tiny white wishes
all at once
the world stood still

wiggling

making friends
who only know me
without you

chewing the shoe
so we'll talk
when you get home

Space

There are no mirrors on the alien spaceship. Maybe that’s how they got so advanced. I’d take an extra probe any day just to see my own face again. I’m the only thing left of home. I don’t even remember what a human looks like. If I saw myself, I’d probably look like the alien. *I barf in my space noodles thinking about my own face.* Are humans ugly or pretty? Am I ugly or pretty? I can’t remember. No one here seems to care.

          I can’t see
          myself
          when no one’s looking
