Right after reading this a bunch of emotions hit me. This haiku is so strong that it targets a certain situation and a specific gender. I knew what to think of and how it has affected me personally as well as many other people. It unites those that are affected by these men's decisions whether good or bad. For some reason, I get angry when I read this haiku. It gives me an emotion that I would normal not have when I read a haiku. It's very different but straight forward. It makes me wonder about all the choices that these men have made and whether they understand how it affects women. I want to know if they understand what women go through with their bodies and if they should be given the right to make the choices for us. I just question the authority as well as the decisions that have been made. Kate This was by far my favorite haiku from the matching contest. I thought it was very powerful with only the few words it used. It's also incredibly relatable as a woman in America today. This is a pretty hot button issue that is important to me. It's sad that men have the biggest say in issues that affect women, so it's important to keep fighting for recognition. Emiliy |

Nature has turned against America is my interpretation of this haiku. Instead of referring to God or an angel above looking down at us in despite the author uses nature instead. It uses what surrounds us to show the significance of what's going on in the U.S. For nature to be biting the flag symbolizes how disappointed it is. Since the wind is biting the flag that shows how it's punishing the U.S. too. To show that it is upset the author ends the haiku with, that stands alone, which shows that not only does nature not support the nation, but the people aren't supporting either. It makes me question how we got to this point. It makes me question why aren't we united anymore and how we can change this. I believe that this haiku can have many different approaches to it but this specifically is my approach. Kate |
