Wondering

by
Jacob Melssen

This collection of haiku is inspired by my daily life as a college student. The haiku follow my thoughts, feelsings and struggles, as well as my natural curiosity and tendency to go through life with a sense of wonder.

Reader's Introduction

Jake's haiku rveal the emotions, wonder and joy in everyday events. These will make you think about the moments that go by in life of a college student.

bare feet on
a cold bathroom floor
the warm shower

lone sock
on the laundry room floor
waiting

February 14th
I can always count on a card
from my mother

bright sunlight
streaming through
the slit in my curtains

roommates gone this weekend
the only company I have
the sound of the washing machine

waves crash
gentle sea breeze
tickles my face

I fake a smile
on the campus tour
stupid questions do exist

calling my mom
after a long day
she always knows what to say

late night studying
my roommate
sings in the shower

scrolling through instagram
all the people
I don't talk to anymore

pedaling aimlessly
the neighborhood
blurs by

rumbling train sits
          idle
  at the crossing

a lone crab
in a tank meant
for two

interested in what
the butterfly thinks
I follow him

the sun
finally coming out
to play

leaving a little bit of myself
at home
every time I return to school

once more I find myself
comforted
an empty house
