wishing on a star
see you from across the way
wasting time

nose in a book
he passes
a single glance

perfect night
dressed all up
breakfast at midnight

staring blankly
his eyes water
stillness

campfire
laughter and smiles
hope

up in the lifeguard chair
sunglasses slipping
children splashing

sweaty brow
5,000 steps
the ants go marching . . .

jamming to
oldies
with oldies

just a talk
he said
no more talking

rocks poke
at my toes
through flip flops

twisted branches
falling leaves
there he stands

he says goodbye
for the summer
one last kiss

flowers in the field
I picked one to save
for nobody

big heavy boxes
hands slipping
the AC kicks on

doodling in her notes
trying to focus
on anything but him

rose petals fall
   the stem bends
still no calls
