Haiku Seeking Responses & Editing Suggestions

Set 7 • Summer 2001
Millikin University

summer school—
driving in a circle
no place to park
summer twilight
Grandma's laughter
catches on cigarette smoke
fireflies . . .
collectively
illuminating the night sky
My!
What a lovely . . .
Ring
midnight
the only sound—
grandfather clock ticking
heavy shade—
under the oak . . .
guilt walks in
spring convention
shaking hands
with the man of my dreams
reflection in the mirror—
modeling
for only herself
Asleep—
squinched eyes
she grabs her chest
Instant replay—
secretly
improving my golf score
I stop to see—
the length of truth . . .
Shadows on hot black top
taking a risk
the ground
out from under me
artwork—
painting her face
the baby eats ice cream
winter storm . . .
bulging belly
wet car seat
pregnancy test results—
both of us
jump for joy
thick fog wraps . . .
around the dock
reflections unseen
misty summer morning
dead racoons
on the side of the road
on the swings
touching the treetops
with our toes
The thieving old girlfriend—
with a lingering hug
steals our trust
