Rengay Attempts Seeking Responses

English 340—Rengay 1 , Summer 2002

Family Reunion

a fly rests
in the apple carcass
red delicious

     pies and cakes
     --almost too tempting

family gathers…
smell of horse farm
uninvited guests

     frolicking kids
     self-absorbed

aunts wave
arms over the tables—
flies are bullseyes

     first lightning bug
     dusk approaches

Brittle Flowers

grass crunching
underfoot, me and only
the birds weep

     a dry blue sky
     without pity

no tears
for the deceased boy
meeting his grandmother

     nearby dusty creek bed
     tiny bones

apertures
of a petrified stump
cut into my boot

     brittle flowers
     mark a page . . .
     the old book

     Just Before Sunset

summer night—
wind chime music
in the soft breeze

     street-corner band concert
     Saturday evening

running a red light
they share
a rusty tandem bicycle

     lawn chairs unfold
     stresses ebb away . . .

movie marquee
comes to life
two drinks, one popcorn

     there’s the Sun
     beginning to set

Bob Reed & family

inbetween

a dragon’s head
peeking from the boughs
of the fur tree

     seedless pine cones
     dripping

web-footed
ducks jumping on my feet
for bread

     air pockets
     in the kneaded dough

thunder clouds
a lightening bolt
to the ground

     grounded frisbee
     in the dog’s mouth
