Haiku to Edit 3

Roundtable Haiku • Fall 2008

five years later
he didn't forget
my eyes were brown

wedding band
turns my finger green—
jaded love

afternoon funeral
for a dead sparrow
whistling eulogies

in the prayer room
i alone
understand my tears

my hot chocolate &
my favorite magazine
my mental health day

stroke of his brush
blue
as the sky turns grey

quiet dinner
he brings out a ring
only gasps

grandma shops
pinching each apple
like grandchildren's cheeks

bicycle
built for two
for one

thunderstorm
lights flicker off:
the cat’s eyes

Chinese Tea Garden
upon request the owner brings me
my own teapot

no longer
staying behind my ears—
new haircut

flying a kite
the small boy
runs with the string
