Harvest moon.
in my cat's eye

Orange slices.

Playing in the garden—
       in her gentle heart
       the blush of Spring.

Reading by the birdfeeder—
the flitting sparrow
much too cautious.

Kitchen herbs—
tender shoots
break the soil's crust

A bright day . . .
He walks the neighborhood
with praying mantis sunglasses.

The old crayon box—
the points blunt, still,
from rainbow drawings.

Wintry light through my window . . .
the dead mentor's signature
on the back of a book mark.
