Second Glance: haiku
by
Alicia M. Scott
When I first started this class last year, I was determined to drop it. However, I decided to give it a second glance and now I'm glad I did.

a building
with its own memories
now an empty shell
home again
just for a visit
chores
music playing
it’s only me
and the dance
a flag slowly lowers
silence broken
by those few sad notes
sitting
beneath the stars
a girl dreams
dreams shattered
one last look . . .
before I turn out the lights
surrounded by family
but alone
forever and always
