Moments in Time
haiku by

Nichole Johnson

The haiku in this collection were born through both memory and imagination. Regardless of hwere they came from, however, I've been told that they show different aspects of my personality. After all, why would I write something in which I have no interest? My memories, my dreams, and all sorts of things that have sprung through my imagination show through in these haiku. So as you read, you'll be getting to know me. I hope you like my moments in time.

a breeze
ripples the stars
in the pond

stomach lurches
they're just friends
  . . . right?

sunlight
peeking over the horizon
and through my blinds

tip-toeing
away from camp
to skinny dip

brown eyes meet
brown eyes
he smiles

an echo
bouncing off the canyon walls
my eyes squint upwards

on the park bench they
  sit                      apart
    and slowly move
           together

bright morning
blurred by tears
luggage on the sidewalk

the candy bowl
empty
mom turns off the porch light

Santa ho ho's
and on his lap
the little girl cries

bright blue-green-gold evening
the clatter of keys
in a silent room

the light filters
through the dust motes
onto his photo
