Assorted Mischief

a haiku collection by
Rick Bearce

Introduction:

Before enrolling in the Haiku Writing Roundtable course, I had no experience writing haiku or poetry for that matter. As I began prolifically writing haiku, I took a liking to humorous haiku or senryu with some surprise ending. This is a collection of some of my favorite haiku that I have compiled over the course of the semester. I've selected many haiku with the humorous or surprise aspects and some of my serious haiku. I hope you enjoy my haiku.

the police dog
uncovers the leg
of an old table

his hand
slowly reveals
the fourth ace

snowstorm moves in
ice fishermen drive away
over the frozen lake

break from sledding--
writing our names
with yellow snow

their son
home from the war
folded flag

time out
popping his shoulder
back into the socket

scent of pine
throughout the house--
hanging the first ornament

bobber glistens
in the afternoon sun--
sleeping redneck

pigeons:
the park bench
speckled white

moonlight enters
the open window
passing street sweeper
