The Journey

by
Nate Halteman

The inspiration for my haiku ranges from fragments of childhood memories to events that just happened not even a month ago. This poetry reflects everything from moments of solitude and happiness to personal struggles. It is a compilation of the meaningful experiences that I have encountered throughout my journey from youth to adulthood as well as my development as a poet over this past semester. It is a pleasure for me to be able to share these thoughts and memories with you.

hidden
underneath the mask
an unexpected guest

the setting sun
my basketball
a brief eclipse

on the goal
a spectator
takes flight

the car ride home
nothing
but the radio

at the end
of the beaten path
my sanctuary

redwoods
touching the heavens
a shack

a white Christmas
falls
within my grasp

stars shining
I find peace
...at last

in the flames
my future revealed
I smile

snowy peaks
pierce the clouds
faint tracks of a sled

a conquered
mountain
my father's tractor

a haunted house
she hides
...behind me
