ground squirrel
balancing his nut
on the garden fence

she blows
the dust
off the catechism

King, Queen, and Jacks
line the dark walnut top
Saturday night fun

cat food first
dog food second
tall green grass . . . burb

his grandmother's ring
haunts his
nightstand drawer

graffiti lines the wall
where I once
skipped rope

water resting
humps
of grass

down the river
the bobber
goes under

6 minutes pass
she gets up
from her final

bedtime story
I comfort her until
her eyes close

waves crashing
to shore
one lonely sandcastle

they lay their foundation
one jagged brick
at a time

strong hot coffee
cold wet seat
alert

Grandmother's favorite
baking dish
isn't the same

soft bed
in a shaded area
her life is good

his breath slowly fades
into the midnight
sky

my body
heals
walking in beauty

colorful eggs
litter the yard
not a rabbit in site
