We studied the traditional 36-link kasen-no-renga and tried to follow the guidelines for each link as well as the overall linking process. Each link was discussed and edited by the whole group as we progressed through its development.

small waves

silent park
listening to the maples
the boy plays hooky

-Andrew

tug on the line
making the water ripple

-Eddie

coral sunset at dusk
ghost father sits
at the boy's side

-Adria

splashing waves
a storm is brewing

-Paul

crimson moon
his haunting memories
sinking deeper

-Andrew

eyes begin to tear
cold wind biting my face

-Eddie

Arctic breeze tears
through to bone,
soul exposed

-Adria

darkened skies
a day of self-exploration

-Paul

under the sycamore
tenth anniversary
consummated

-Andrew

birds in the sycamore
anthem of first kisses

-Eddie

the lovers entwine
wrapped
in the moonlight

-Adria

still exploring
but secrets of someone new

-Paul

a woodpecker knocks
breaking daydreamer's memories
i smile at her

-Andrew

she grins mysteriously
the moon wanes as she must go

-Eddie

leaving first love
child on the way,
she enters the convent

-Adria

her red eyes closed
the world becomes dark

-Paul

they open--
cherry blossoms fall
swirling around her

-Andrew

she dances the secret dance
no one can see them but her

-Eddie

among the budding flowers
the princess
confesses her passion

-Adria

a ghostly figure
appears among the buds

-Paul

she conveys to him
tales of her forbidden love
wind rattles the panes

-Andrew

they embrace in front of the fire
frost patterns on the windows

-Eddie

holding hands
grandma and grandpa rock their chairs-
perfect unison

-adria

grandpas chair empty-
the wind blows cold

-Paul

rosy cheeks
her tiny mittened hand
pets the stray dog

-Andrew

snowflakes falling gently
white dotson matted black fur

-Eddie

Christmas Day-
bloodshot eyes and red noses
at the cemetery

-adria

running from tears
a new home far away

-Paul

a distant coyote cry
i too raise my bloodshot eyes
toward the full moon

-Andrew

the wind whispers in my ear
hidden answers to my questions

-Eddie

with heavenly song
the nightingale answers-
angels weep

-adria

moutain peaks
heavenly clouds a bit closer

-Paul

the smell of rain
perfect time for fishing
coming closer

-Andrew

the smooth lake surface
broken by the falling hook

-Eddie

no fish caught-
cherries from the blossom
dinner fruit

-adria

small waves
an evil serpent passes

-Paul
