restless night
I come downstairs
my father makes fried eggs

waiting for a plate

the eggs

moonbeams filter
through the blinds

There's so much work to do
in three hours when my day begins

Dad hums
while flipping eggs

little brother
starts his paper route

wool scarf wound
around his face
snow flurries

watching snowflakes disappear
as they fall

yellow snow
where the dog peed
don't eat it

birds awakening
their songs fill the air

paper route done
the sun replaces the moon
as a new day dawns

People start shuffling
the birds wake up

I roll over
he smiles at me
what bright eyes

reluctantly, he leaves
to go get the paper

the wnd carries
cherry blossom petals
down the brick street

Everyone travels that direction
