Spring Rain

by
Sydney Griggs

Spring rain is a haiku collection of works that define my 2020: a year of short-lived love, happiness, grief, loss, chaos and an ongoing fight with mental health.

This book serves as a reminder–for flowers to bloom, it must first rain.

spring rain
drawing hearts on
the car window

family dinner
pouring salt
into the wound

sunset breeze
as he holds me—
underwater

hey, what if . . .
i write you a love letter
in crayon

growing pains
my skin
doesn't fit me yet

dancing moonlight
oh to finally be
in my body again

grade seven
the lessons
we weren't meant to learn

closing pages
part of myself
left between the lines

empty parking lot
resting bitch face
for armor

jack-o-lantern
the fire burning
inside his smile
