Parking Lot Puddles

by
Matt Kordesh

Over the past couple months, I’ve had the opportunity to write in the ballpark of over 100 haiku. I’ve experimented with various styles and attempted to convey almost every emotion I could think of. However, when it came to composing a list of all my favorite Haiku, the ones I was drawn to typically consisted of a combination of humor and nostalgia. The title of this collection, “Parking Lot Puddles,” is in reference to the following haiku:

tiptoeing around
parking lot puddles
a midwestern dance

This haiku is one of my strongest in this collection. I really like the rhythm of the haiku, and it brings me back to the rainy spring days back in Indiana, which I carry a strong emotional attachment to. I hope the readers will find they can relate to my experiences.
