in her hospital bed
a familiar story
from a stranger

yelling from the other side
of the wall
trouble in paradise

eating lunch on the patio
mosquitos dine
on my arm

the old book
flowers pressed between pages
flash of memories

rain in the air 
I rush  
to the laundromat

cold metal bench 
strangers passing by 
they're not you

7

a cracked spine
sand falls out
of the crisp pages

months of unread texts
i still reach
for his hand . . .

apple picking
his diabetic pump
keeps going off

10

an empty wallet
never enough time
to refill it

my favorite chips
going stale
new stretch marks

shimmering pool
walking in her swimsuit
to a locked gate

party with a friend 
we dance off beat 
together

we swat flies 
one lands  
on your face

15

pulled into a hug
no holding back . . .
the tears

granny’s house
yarn in hand
recliner chair

Sunday football
plenty to eat
TV volume too high

jelly filled
a doughnut hole
made of flesh

my one trick yoyo
up and down
up and down

sibling heart-to-heart
family dog
the only witness

woman at the stake
his eyes reflect
burning

let me in! 
thanks. now 
let meowt!

smeared mascara 
the sound of boots 
walking away

24

flashing lights
pinpoint pupils
another DUI

snapped pencil tip
i drift into
the world of the window

26

everything bagel
the homelesss lady
offers me half

27

blurry vision
the dirt on the headstone
disappears
