Halloween Kukai 07

Global Haiku • Millikin University • Fall 2025

1

a voice
from the cemetery
walking faster now

2

old newspapers
covering the table
pumpkin guts

3

dead end
it’s coming, it’s . . .
my bête noire

4

rolling graves
I hear
the whispers

5

Trick or Treat?
sprouts in candy wrappers
I chose trick

6

dark sky, clown sightings
kids run and scream
Halloween

7

Halloween night
the door creaks open
I feel something's eyes

8

banging on the door
coming up the stairs
I open my eyes

9

Halloween candy bowl
the one left
my favorite piece

10

no one notices
her beautiful bones
only displayed on Halloween

11

shadow
in the corner
not mine

12

dowsing rod moving
EMF lights on
maybe it’s true

13

phone goes off
yellow ghost
group chat spamming

14

graveyard
the lone caretaker
talks to his friends

15

the house settles
creak
I pull my covers tight

16

picky Trick-or-treater
takes nothing
but milk chocolate

17

cool wind
in a window-less room
spirits here

18

late bloomer
first Trick-or-treat
at 18 years old

19

creaking floor boards
the night ghost
just my brother

20

family matching costumes
“no more candy”
we sneak more

21

children race
down the street
stuffing faces with candy

22

a pale fog
I feel something brush
against my ear

23

candy in piles
on the floor, I give away
my whoppers

24

I dress as a character
from a movie
nobody knows

25

a porch creaks
I pull my cardigan on
to dim streetlights

26

a whopper
in my jack o'lantern jug
a decent trade for tomorrow

27

white sheets
seen at Halloween
a simple costume
