Boy 2 Men

by
Brandon Johnson

This collection is called "Boy 2 Men" because these are my best haiku that take me back to memories of my childhood and my transition to adulthood and being a father. These show the thinking of a child transforming into the mindset of a man, a man now raising children of his own. I am remembering the morals I was raised with and am tryingn to instill them with my own family.

Haiku has deeply influenced my life by teaching me to find meaning in small moments and express big ideas with just a few words. Writing and reading haiku has made me more aware of my surroundings, both in my personal life and at work. One of the most valuable lessons haiku has taught me is the power of observation. It encourages me to pay close attention to nature, the rhythms of daily life, and the emotions that affect how we connect with others. This awareness has made me more empathetic, not just toward nature but also toward the people I meet. In conversations, I try to listen more deeply and respond with more care.

lost in the fields
my ancestors cry
tears of joy

freedom of speech
my grandmother in ah
don't let them hear you

looking out the window
wish I was there
heavy fever

happy life
minus the wife
guess they were wrong

middle of the night
cars on the road
going nowhere fast

breathe in
breathe out
why does it hurt so

in the dark
my children are
the light

down in the dumps
her little smile
lifts me up

growing so fast
keep adding water
take your time

old jeans
don't fit
new diet
