Through the Clouds

Learning the literary art of reading and writing haiku has been an enriching experience. Haiku, with its simplicity and focus on nature, has taught me the value of mindfulness and appreciating the experiences we each have.  In a fast-paced world, the practice of reflection is lost among many. Haiku reminds me to pause, observe, and find beauty in the ordinary. As an English major this class affects me deeper on a curriculum level. Professionally, haiku has sharpened my ability to communicate with emotion. Its structure encourages the selection of words with care, a skill that enhances writing in any context. Personally, haiku has taught me to have a deeper appreciation for simplicity. It has shown me that underlying meaning can be translated in just a few words. It is a reminder that something inspiring can be found anywhere and all it takes is for me to look for the extraordinary in everyday life. This art form has bettered my life by cultivating awareness, creativity, and connection, skills that benefit in all aspects of life.

lost in the ashes
dust
burned to the ground

piles of debt loom
hard as cement
walk the stage with a smile

look at the waves clash
rocks fight back
listen as they tango
