The Loudest Silence

by
Amy Webb-Braun

This collection reflects the quiet loss of a friendship that faded without explanation. These haiku focus on small moments of silence, distance, memory, that carry heavy emotion. They are not about closure, but about living with unanswered questions and the presence of absence.

Learning about the art of reading and writing haiku has enriched my life by helping me slow down and notice the small details around me. Writing my own haiku showed me that a few carefully chosen words can express strong emotions and meaningful moments. Instead of explaining everything, haiku taught me to trust the reader and let the poem speak for itself.

five deep breaths
before I check
my phone

I watch from afar
your laugh fills the room
my heart skips again

I see you walking
but we no longer speak now
wind moves between us

on the bench
we’re back together
birds all around
