Memory Lane

by
Isabel Vincent

Sometimes we get caught up in our crazy lives and forget to be thankful for the little things. We focus too much on the wrong aspects of life, such as social media or comparing our lives to others. I am guilty of these things too.
Within the last year, I have realized this and started to live in the moment. I live each day like it is my last. I admire the beautiful sunsets and spend any spare time with my family. Life is too short to be unhappy. Writing haiku has allowed me to reflect on these moments and share some of my favorite.

dancing around the table
listening to La Grange
I will never forget

wildflowers
each petal presents
a memory of you

I met you
now I know why
storms are named after people

dinner with grandma
ice cream for dessert
every time

 The Gym:
      where i act
like i know what i’m doing

a room full
of lost souls
small town bar scene

wedding day
my mother's dress
she would be so proud

packing up
great-grandma's apartment
we each take a memory

grandma's wrinkled hands
one day
mine will be the same

truck bed
counting the stars
my favorite night

I click submit
finally I feel
relief . . .

homemade
melting on my tongue
I make a mess

breakup text
our names still together
carved in a tree

lunch with grandma
i will never forget
the smile on your face
